The Mohawk women’s volleyball team swept Canadore Panthers of North Bay, 25-15, 25-19, 25-18, at the Fennell Gymnasium on Saturday (Jan. 29). With the victory, the Mountaineers moved into a tie for third place in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association West Region with Fanshawe, both with 12-4 records. Canadore fell to 7-10.
Jennifer Knowles was the top scorer for Mohawk with 13 points from 11 kills, one service ace and one stuff block. Andrea Garbaty had five kills, three aces and three blocks, while Lauren Aquilina added eight kills and one block.
Mountaineers’ head coach Sean Pellow was not overly impressed by his side in the early going, but said a win is a win and conceded the team got better as the match wore on.
He said he managed to get playing time for everyone and when they went in they did the job.
