The Mohawk men’s volleyball team, which won three straight games last week, has been named Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Men’s Team of the Week for the period ending Jan. 30.
The Mountaineers swept Niagara, Nipissing and Canadore and improved their record to 8-5 in the West Region.
Mohawk is ranked No. 5 in the OCAA this week.
And the Mountaineers didn’t waste any time defending the weekly honour. The team rolled to its fourth consecutive victory, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16 over the St. Clair Saints of Windsor on Tuesday (Feb.1) at the Fennell Gymnasium.
Mo Sulaiman had seven kills and eight service aces to lead the attack, Justin Scapinello added 10 kills and two stuff blocks for Mohawk, now 9-5 in the West Region.
Mountaineers head coach Matt Schnarr also praised setter Zac Schulz, who had four kills and a block, but set a very efficient offense. Schnarr said it wasn’t a great match but his team is starting to roll.
Mohawk also got a measure of revenge after Saint Clair swept the Mountaineers in Windsor on Nov. 19.
