The Mohawk Mountaineers volleyball teams posted 3-0 victories over the Conestoga Condors in Kitchener on Thursday (Feb. 3).
The Mohawk men are now 10-5 after winning their fifth match in a row, 25-16, 25-20, 25-15 over the Condors. Mo Sulaiman had eight kills and on a scale of four, rated 3.8 on his passing. Ryan dela Rosa contributed seven kills and a passer rating of three. Kevin Teskey got five kills and two blocks and Justin DesRoche had just two blocks but played a great game off the bench, according to head coach Matt Schnarr.
“Execution was again the name of the game, said Schnarr. “We came out strong early and maintained pressure. Our control in serve-receive has risen and we continue to move in the right direction.”
The women improved their record to 14-4 with a 25-11, 25-17, 25-16 decision. Jenna Gignac had 11 kills, 13 digs, three service aces and two stuff blocks. Jennifer Knowles had six kills, two aces and two blocks. “We are still playing with a slight shortage of energy and passion that we need to be successful down the stretch, said head coach Sean Pellow. “We are still improving and increasing our confidence every day.”
The two teams return to action Saturday (Feb. 5) at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m at Mohawk’s Fennell Gymnasium.
