The McMaster women’s basketball team fell to the No. 2 nationally ranked Windsor Lancers. The Marauders were unable to contain last year’s Canadian Interuniversity Sports Rookie of the Year, Jessica Clemencon (St. Rambert’s, France), and the defending champs and lost, 63-46.
The Marauders got off to a hot start in the first period, sinking six baskets to go ahead 12-8. In the second, the Lancers would score 17 to McMaster’s 13 and the teams would be tied going into the third, 25-25, in the Ontario University Athletics game.
In the third the Lancers would come flying out of the gates, holding the Marauders to just six points in 10 minutes and scoring 22 of their own. In the fourth, despite efforts from Jaklynn Nimec (Binbrook) for McMaster, the women’s team was unable to cut down the third quarter deficit.
Nimec had 15 points and six rebounds for the Marauders. Taylor Chiarot (Hamilton) had 10 points in the loss.
For the Lancers, Clemencon recorded the only double-double of the game with 23 points and 16 rebounds. Miah-Marie Langlois (Windsor) had another 14 points for Windsor.
The Marauders will be hosts to the No. 3 Western Mustangs on Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.
