The following teams have been named Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Teams of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 6.
The No. 3 provincially-ranked Mohawk Mountaineers women’s volleyball team (15-4) clinched a playoff spot in the OCAA West this week with wins over St. Clair, Conestoga and No. 9 Sheridan. In total, Mohawk has won four straight matches, all in straight sets.
Fourth-year player Jennifer Knowles (Burlington) is the offensive leader on the Mountaineers averaging 3.83 points per set. She has accumulated 249 offensive points on 190 kills, 31 stuff blocks and 29 service aces.
Knowles is among the OCAA West leaders in total points.
Mohawk is ranked No. 12 nationally.
The new No. 1 provincially-ranked Sheridan Bruins men’s volleyball team (11-3) has won nine straight regular season contests. No win was bigger than Sheridan’s 3-1 (25-20, 30-28, 22-25, 25-20) triumph over former No. 1 Humber on Thursday (Feb. 3).
Sheridan followed this up with a 3-1 (25-16, 25-15, 23-25, 25-23) win at No. 5 Mohawk two days later. Both wins avenged losses earlier in the season. Fifth-year middle Andrew Henry (Brampton) continues to lead the Bruins in a number of categories, including points (196), kills (146), service aces (7), and blocks (43).
Sheridan is ranked No. 4 in Canada.
