The McMaster women’s basketball team fell to the No. 2 nationally-ranked Windsor Lancers, 79-65, Wednesday (Feb.16) night in Windsor.
Team scoring leader Taylor Chiarot (Hamilton) had a game-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Ontario University Athletics loss.
The scoring got started early as the Marauders were down by five after the first quarter. By halftime, the Lancers were up seven on the visiting Marauders. A big factor was shooting percentage. While McMaster shot 34% from the field, Windsor hit for 40% over the course of the game.
In the third, like the last time the Marauders faced the Lancers, Windsor pulled away. Going into the fourth, McMaster was down by 15 and would not be able to close the gap. Jessica Clemencon (St. Rambert, France) proved to be a problem for the Marauders again as the 6-2 forward scored 17 points. Miah-Marie Langlois (Windsor) scored another 18 for the Lancers.
Chiarot scored double digits along with teammates Vanessa Bonomo (Dundas), 13 points for the Marauders, and Elizabeth Burns (Hamilton), with 10 more.
The Marauders play their last game of the regular season at home on Saturday (Feb. 19) against the Waterloo Warriors at noon.
