The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the San Antonio Rampage 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. Ben Maxwell, Ryan Russell and Andreas Engqvist scored the goals for Hamilton as they won their second consecutive American Hockey League game after losing five straight.
The Rampage struck first, scoring at 6:16 with a power-play goal in the opening frame. Randy Robitaille took a pass from Garrett Stafford while positioned at the right faceoff circle before sending a cross-ice pass to Bracken Kearns. Kearns snapped a shot that beat goaltender Curtis Sanford.
The ‘Dogs tied the game nine minutes later. Alex Henry collected the puck at the right point before blasting a shot towards the net. The puck went behind the net, where Russell picked it up before centering it. The puck bounced off the skate of a Rampage defender and past goaltender Matt Climie.
Hamilton took a 2-1 lead with 23 seconds left in the period. Dustin Boyd deked past a Rampage defender before sliding a pass to Maxwell, who one-timed a shot into the net.
After a scoreless second period, Engqvist added an empty net goal at 19:41 to seal the victory for Hamilton.
Hamilton outshot their guests 32-21 with 4,563 fans on hand.
The Bulldogs will host the Rochester Americans for a 2 p.m. game on Monday, Feb. 21 at Copps Coliseum. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
