Crunch crunched by Bulldogs

The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Syracuse Crunch, 3-2, on Saturday night (Feb. 26). Nigel Dawes recorded the game-winning goal for the ‘Dogs as he extended his goal-scoring streak to six games.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 8:08 of the first frame. Brendon Nash collected the puck at the point before blasting a shot on net. The puck sailed through traffic and over the left shoulder of goaltender Timo Pielmeier.

The Crunch tied the game 51 seconds later. Josh Green received the puck from Nicolas Deschamps before blasting a shot on net. Hamilton goaltender Curtis Sanford made the save but couldn’t control the rebound, allowing Kyle Palmieri to grab the loose puck and fire it past the goaltender.

Kyle Klubertanz regained the lead for the Bulldogs less than two minutes later with a power-play goal. Dustin Boyd carried the puck into the Syracuse zone before feeding a pass to Klubertanz, who snapped a shot that bounced off the post and into the net.

Robert Mayer replaced Sanford in the Hamilton goal to start the second period.

The ‘Dogs increased the lead to 3-1 at 4:25 of the second stanza. Dawes received the puck from Andreas Engqvist and rifled a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle to beat Pielmeier.

Syracuse made the game 3-2 at 4:43 while on the power-play in the third period. Nick Bonino sent the puck to Josh Green, who relayed a pass to Patrick Maroon. Maroon finished the three-way passing play off by tapping the puck past a down and out Mayer.

Syracuse had a slim 36-35 advantage in shots on net with 5,589 spectators on hand.

The Bulldogs return to Copps Coliseum to host the Griffins for a 4 p.m. game on Sunday (Feb. 27) against the Grand Rapids team. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
