Mac grapplers pin down silver medals

The McMaster Marauders are returning home with some hardware after two hard fought days at the Canadian Interuniversity Sports Wrestling Championships held at Lakehead University. Kevin MacLellan (Hamilton) earned a silver medal, after he was defeating in the gold medal match by the reigning CIS Champion, David Oliver of Saskatchewan MacLellan was also honored with the CIS Community Service Award.

McMaster’s Ryan Blake (Stoney Creek) is also bringing home a silver medal in the men’s 72 kg division. Blake was out-wrestled by Ryan Myrfield, the 2009 CIS champion in the weight class. Sean House (Hagersville) finished just outside the medals, losing the bronze medal match in the men’s 90 kg division.

On the women’s side, Alysha Anderson (Windsor) was bested by Brock’s Alyshia Depass in the women’s 82 kg division. The McMaster women’s team finished the tournament in 12th place, with five points. The Marauders men finished just shy of the top five, tied for Western with 29 points.

The University of Alberta women and Concordia University men claimed the team titles.
