IceHogs stop Bulldogs with a shootout

The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Rockford IceHogs 2-1 in a shootout on Wednesday night at Copps Coliseum. Hannu Toivonen stopped 44 of 45 shots he faced while three Rockford shooters scored in the shootout to win the game.

The IceHogs got on the scoreboard first with a goal at 2:59 of the opening period. Brian Connelly fired a shot from the point that bounced off the leg of a Bulldogs defender and off the stick of Ben Smith before trickling past the left pad of Hamilton starting goaltender Drew MacIntyre.

The Bulldogs tied the game 1-1 at 2:23 of the second stanza. Nigel Dawes cut across the front of the IceHogs net before sending a shot towards the net. Aaron Palushaj tapped the puck past Rockford starting goaltender Hannu Toivonen and into the back of the net.

With the teams tied at one and neither club able to score in the overtime period, the game went into a shootout. Palushaj and Dany Masse tallied for the Bulldogs but Toivonen stopped the next three Hamilton shooters while Jeff Taffe, Smith and Brandon Pirri scored for the IceHogs to win the game.

The Bulldogs will continue their four-game home-stand when they welcome the Lake Erie Monsters to Copps Coliseum for a 7:00 p.m. game on Friday, March 11th. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
