Wildcats undefeated for gold win at Guelph Phoenix Tournament



Hamilton Wildcats Junior Ladies basketball team went undefeated in the Guelph Phoenix basketball tournament March 11 – 13.

The girls started with a win against the home team Guelph Phoenix #2 on Friday night (54-37). On Saturday they had three solid wins against Mitchell Mavericks (60-31), East Side Warriors (57-23) and Woodstock Chill (48-32).

After turning the clocks ahead one hour and being exhausted from playing from 8:30 am until 8:30 pm the day before the girls fought a hard game to win 53 – 48 against the Mitchell Mavericks Sunday morning. The girls finished the tournament with a gold medal performance against Woodstock Chill taking the game 48-35.

All players contributed to the win; they stayed positive and worked hard. Team members include: Samantha Toma (#4), Shauna Ciannavei (#5), Ashley Howell (#8), Carolynn Cooke (#11), Candace Matthews (#13), Kristina Caton (#15), Nicola Gray (#20), Shandra Tourney (#34), Mimi Kitenge (#22), assistant Coach Marina Ciannavei and head coach Rick Morton.

Hamilton Wildcats is a non-profit rep basketball club with a 15 year history in the provision and delivery of competitive basketball programs for youth in the Hamilton community.
