Winning football teams are built with superior athletes, and quality programs attract the cream of the crop. McMaster University head coach Stefan Ptaszek believes he has assembled a tremendous recruiting class looking toward the 2011 Ontario University Athletics season.
“This (commitment) announcement represents a great deal of hard work by our staff, but we are thrilled at the results and looking forward to working with these outstanding young men,” said Ptaszek. “We expect these players to come in and compete hard. We know from experience that first-year players can make an impact.”
This initial group of 18 commits addresses several areas which the coaches identified as needing an infusion of talent to build solid depth. The Marauder staff recognizes these players as among some of the best coming out of the high school ranks this year.
According to Ptaszek, “I believe we have accomplished our goal of improving the Marauder football team. When you look at some of the accomplishments that these recruits are bringing to McMaster, it is an exciting group.”
Despite suffering through an injury-riddled 2010 season, the Marauders were still able to advance to the OUA semi-finals, and finished the season ranked seventh in the final Canadian Interuniversity Sports top-ten poll. That success was the result of having quality players available to step in when others were lost to injury.
Ptaszek views his latest additions as being able to either challenge for starting spots in 2011, or provide that superior depth required to win a championship.
McMaster expects to announce further recruiting commitments during the coming weeks.
