Ryan Russell’s goal – the game winner – and assist helped lift the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 3-1 American Hockey League win against the host Peoria Rivermen on Sunday (March 27). Drew MacIntyre made 26 saves for the win.
The Rivermen got on the scoreboard first at 13:02 of the opening stanza. Dean Arsene passed to Tyson Strachan, who was at the right point. Strachan blasted a shot on net that was redirected into the net by Graham Mink.
The Bulldogs tied the game at 7:42 of the second stanza. Aaron Palushaj batted the puck towards the net from the slot. Dustin Boyd got his stick on the puck, tipping it past goaltender Jake Allen.
Russell’s goal came less than three minutes later. He collected the puck in the crease before shovelling it underneath Allen and into the net. J.T. Wyman completed Hamilton’s scoring at 13:36 with a power-play marker. Wyman received the puck from Russell, while in the slot and snapped a shot that sailed through traffic and into the net.
Hamilton had 28 shots on net. A crowd of 6,682 watched the game.
The win capped a six game road trip for Hamilton. They finished the series with two wins and four losses. Of the losses one was a shoot-out defeat and one was an overtime setback.
The Bulldogs return to Copps Coliseum to host the Abbotsford Heat for games on Tuesday (March 29) and Wednesday (March 30). Both games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
