Blessed Sacrament girls take bronze in OBA provincial

The Blessed Sacrament Novice #2 Girls were ranked 11th in Ontario before the Ontario Basketball Association provincial tournament and they made sure they kept their ranking.

They played hard in pool play winning two of their three games.

Their first game was at 9 p.m. on Friday night (March 25), so needless to say the parents were a little worried about how their tired athletes would fair after traveling three hours to Chatham for the Division Two provincial tourney. But they played hard defense and made some great offensive plays to claim the win against Brantford Briers, 20-12.

Their second game was on Saturday against Barrie Royals and also ended in a victory for the Yellow Jackets, 21-11. After the second win the Yellow Jackets knew they had made it to the semi-finals on Sunday but this third game was going to decide if they were first in their pool or second for the crossover of pool play.

The girls fought hard and played excellent defense against the Huron Lakers but lost, 26-19. This put them in second in their pool against the Scarborough Blues on Sunday morning in the semi-final game. This was a nail biter right to the final buzzer but the Yellow Jackets fell short, 22-19, which sent them to the bronze medal game against the KW Lightning. The girls really worked like a team and passed the ball around and found open players under the net to claim the bronze medal in a 28-21 victory.

Team members are Amber, Beth, Emily, Emma, Hailey, Julia, Kayla, Kirsten, Meira, Tia, Tyanna, Victoria; Coaches are Octavio and John.
