Adamczyk, Chiarot join forces in OUA women’s all-star court

There will be a strong Hamilton and area flavour on the court when 20 of the best Ontario University Athletics women’s basketball players come together as West and East faceoff on Saturday (May 7) in the OUA All-Star Game at RIM Park in Waterloo. The game is part of the Ontario Basketball Association’s Ontario Cup provincial championships and tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and admission is free of charge.

The West team will feature Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks’ graduating captain Renata Adamczyk (Greensville). She was last year’s recipient of the Joy Bellinger Award in recognition of outstanding service to basketball and to the advancement of university athletics and was twice named the West defender of the year.

McMaster Marauder Taylor Chiarot (Hamilton), a second team all-star last year, and Lakehead’s Lindsay Druery (Smithville) will suit up with Adamczyk along side first team all-star Whitney Gorges (Welland) of Brock. Western’s Jenny Vaughn (Dundas) will be in attendance but unable to play due to injury.

Headlining the West team, last year’s winner, is OUA and Canadian Interuniversity Sport player of the year Jessica Clemençon (St. Rambert, France) of the Windsor Lancers.

The East will feature first team all-stars Ashley MacDonald (Port Colborne) of Ryerson, and second team all-star Brittany Szockyj (Niagara-on-the-Lake) of York.

A full day of events is planned before the all-star game, beginning with a sold-out OBA Mega Hoops Mania clinic run by the OUA all-stars at 11 a.m. This three hour, fun-filled, action packed skill session will lead participants through progressive activities as they learn the proper execution of basketball fundamentals. Following the clinic the all-stars will take to the court in an interactive skills competition. From 2:30 till 6 p.m. all fans will be welcome to test their skills, and see how they match up against the OUA all-stars.

The OUA all-star game is being held in conjunction with the U17 Juvenile girls and U19 Junior women OBA Provincial Championships, with games taking place in the Waterloo region all weekend.
