When the best baseball players in Ontario University Athletics take to the Rogers Centre field on Sunday, three McMaster Marauders will be in the lineup.
Infielder Patrick Grier (Guelph) and right handed pitchers Andrew Morales (Wasaga Beach) and Greg Swan (Dundas) will wear the colours of the OUA All-Stars as they take on last year’s league champions, the Brock Badgers, in the fifth annual OUA Baseball All-Star Showcase.
The game will follow the Toronto Blue Jays-Detroit Tigers American League contest, which starts at 1.07 p.m.
Brock claimed the 2010 OUA title with a 5-1 victory over London’s Western Mustangs. The Badgers finished in a tie for second in the regular season with a 10-4 record and ousted the Toronto Varsity Blues in the semifinals. In last year’s showcase, the all-stars knocked off Western in extra innings. The all-star team holds a 2-1-1 record with the inaugural game in 2007 ending in a tie.
In addition to the Mac trio, two other area athletes are on the all-star cast: Guelph Gryphons first baseman Craig Howse (Milton) and Queen’s outfielder Dave Venturi (Oakville).
Two Hamilton athletes are included in the Badgers lineup. Infielder Mitch Peragine and outfielder Kyle Gappa will join four other players from Hamilton-area on the Brock squad.
Left handed pitcher Corey Burghall (St. Catharines), right handed pitchers Evan DiMichele (Oakville) and Sean Mathe (Milton) and infielder Garrett Fisher (Niagara Falls) will support the Badgers, who are led by OUA Hitter of the Year, Shaun Valeriote (Guelph).
The All-Stars will feature OUA Pitcher of the year, Adam Paish (Mississauga) of the Western Mustangs and 2010 OUA Rookie of the Year Nathan Loehle (Cambridge) of the Laurier Golden Hawks.
