The Hamilton Bulldogs and the Houston Aeros will open a best-of-seven series for the American Hockey League’s Western Conference title on Friday (May 13). The first two games of the series will be played in Houston with Hamilton hosting Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary) at Copps Coliseum.
The Bulldogs defeated the Oklahoma City Barons in six games in their best-of-seven North Division semi-final series before downing the Manitoba Moose in seven games in the North Division final. The Aeros swept the Peoria Rivermen in four games in their best-of-seven West Division semi-final series before knocking off the Milwaukee Admirals in seven games in the West Division final.
Houston earns home-ice advantage because the Aeros finished with more points than Hamilton in the regular season. Hamilton had a 1-1-0-0 record against Houston in the 2010-11 regular season.
If Games 6 and 7 are needed, the series will return to Houston. This will be the second time the teams have met each other in the Calder Cup Playoffs. The previous encounter was the 2003 Calder Cup final when the Aeros defeated the Bulldogs in seven games.
