Cardinals’ mosquitos fly circles around Tigers

Having gone unbeaten all of last season in InterCounty Baseball Association play, the Major Mosquito Tier 1 Cardinals were looking to start the 2011 season where they left off.

So far, so good. The Cards easily tamed the Waterloo Tigers, 11-1 in recent play.

Cardinals pitching staff tossed a two-hit gem to defeat the Tigers. Opening day starter Sean Pettener got the win, pitching four innings, striking out five, walking three and giving up the two hits and the run. Reliever Ian Jordan closed out the game striking out one.

At the plate Steven Lemay drove in what would stand as the winning run. He had a one-for-three showing at the plate and produced 4 runs-batted-in. Jared Hill and Pettener each went three-for-two, had two RBI each, and Tommy Thompson went two-for-two while scoring three times.
