The Hamilton Cardinals Minor Peewee team evened its record at 2-2 with an exciting come from behind 7-6 victory with two outs in the bottom of the seventh over the Brantford Red Sox.
Jacob Underwood started the InterCounty Baseball Association game and went 4 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and four runs. Three of the runs were earned. Underwood struck four batters before giving way to Shane Samson. In his relief stint, Samson gave up two more runs.
The Cardinals went into the bottom of the seventh trailing 6-3 as they were able to get only two hits and three runs off Brantford’s starting pitcher. After picking up one run off the Red Sox first reliever, the Cards had runners on first and third with one out. A strikeout brought Michael Ssemanda to the plate and he singled to plate Ty Whalen. Mitchell Novosad took second on the throw home.
Ssemanda then stole third and Shane Samson walked to load the bases. Nolan Gallo promptly hit the first offering into shallow right field to score Ssemanda with the winning run.
Brantford scored its runs on six hits. They had two runners thrown out at home – one in the top of the second and another in the top of the fifth and also had a runner picked off first by Underwood in the top of the fifth.
