First year Marauder Konrad Bald (Beamsville) has been named a member of Canada’s National Team to attend the North American Challenge Cup in Puerto Vaillarta Mexico, Aug 1 – 8.
“I am completely surprised and extremely excited.” said the swimmer.
“I am working very hard to do a great job to represent Canada and McMaster. My Marauder family is so supportive, and the opportunities that have been given us to succeed here at McMaster are tremendous”
Bald, previously from the Golden Horseshoe Aquatic Club, improved remarkably this year from 2:29.45 in the 200m breaststroke to a 2:21.67. He also improved from 1:05.93 in the 100m breaststroke to 1:03.5. He also shaved an incredible two seconds of his 50m breaststroke to now swim it in 29.53 seconds.
Bald had the most significant improvements of any male athlete in Ontario. Even more significant was that he made the jumps in performance while balancing the demanding workload of studying engineering at McMaster.
“Konrad has an incredible ability to stay calm in pressure situations and had the focus to remain on task athletically and academically,” said Mac coach Andrew Cole. “Konrad is a fantastic athlete to coach and I believe this is the beginning of a very bright future.”
Cole had to decline an invitation to coach the National Team Coach because McMasters is hosting a summer swim camp.
