The Hamilton Minor Midget Cardinals improved their InterCounty Baseball Association to 2-0 at the expense of the Guelph Royals. The May 11 game was the Cards home opener and marked the Cards first time facing a Major Midget team in league play.
Hamilton opened the scoring in the bottom of the second when Mike Hewak drove in Adam Rossit who had double. Hamilton tacked on a run on Matt Humble’s run-batted-in single in the fourth, scoring Marcus Dicenzo who had a leadoff walk.
Guelph was able to tie the game off Hamilton starter Hayden Waselynchuk in the top of the fifth with two unearned runs. The game went into extra innings and Hamilton relievers Adam Prodeus and Mitch Gardiner were able to silence the Royals bats.
Hamilton won it in the bottom of the ninth when David Vanderby was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded forcing in the winning run.
