The Hamilton Cardinals Major Mosquito Tier 2 team scored a come-from-behind victory with a 9-8 win over the visiting Brantford Red Sox in recent InterCounty Baseball Association play.
After four Innings, Brantford had a 3-1 lead and added another to start the fifth inning. But Hamilton bounced right back, putting four across home plate in the bottom half of the inning for a 5-4 edge. Not to be outdone in the next inning, the Red Sox scored four to take an 8-5 lead. The Cardinals bats came alive when needed most to knock in four more runs to take the victory in the sixth Inning when the game was called by curfew.
Starting Cards’ pitcher Jack Morin turned in a wonderful effort, giving up just two runs in his three Innings of work. He finished the evening with two strikeouts, three walks, and two hits. Reliever Zach Wright yielded two more runs in his two Innings on the hill. To pitch the final Inning, Andrew Johnson came in. After having a few tough errors occur behind him, he got through the sixth, allowing four runs and striking out two Brantford batters.
Michael Wheaton led the way at the plate going three-for-three. Brock Hudecki and Morin finished two-for-three with two runs scored each.
Cardinals, now 2-0 in ICBA play, host the Stratford Indians Sunday (May 29) at Mahoney Park. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
