Minor Peewee Cards start busy week with win

The Hamilton Cardinals Minor Peewee team started a busy week of four games in six days on the right foot by beating the Waterloo Tier 2 Tigers 15-4 in 5 innings.

Cardinals starter David Candy pitched 2 hitless innings and recorded 3 strikeouts. He was relieved by Noah Britt, who recorded the win by tossing 3 innings, with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk and yielding an unearned run. Nolan Gallo closed out the game with 3 strikeouts and 3 earned runs.

The Cardinals bats started slowly as their first run wasn’t scored until the second inning despite having two runners reach third base in the first inning. They scored a second run in the third, then 4 in the fourth and finally 9 in the 5th. Gallo, Mitchell Novosad, Kole Bishop, Jacob Underwood, Tyler Whalen and David Candy all had two hits in the game with Underwood and Candy hitting a double each and Whalen crushing a ball to the fence that he legged into a triple. Ayden Hannon, Whalen and Candy all recorded two RBIs.

Van Slyck started the game for Waterloo and went 3 1/3 innings, giving up 4 runs and taking the loss. Cullen came on in relief and was touched up for 11 runs, 8 of them earned. The Tigers recorded 3 hits, with Splain recording 2 RBIs.
