The Hamilton Cardinals Major Mosquitoes went into this match-up against the Guelph Royals looking to stretch their unbeaten streak to 10 games in ICBA play this season. They did it in grand fashion scoring a 12-2 victory while keeping their composure against a rattled Guelph team.
The evening started off on the wrong foot for the Cards when Guelph quickly jumped out in front with a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Cardinals quickly cut the lead in half in the bottom of the 1st. Then it seems that the Cardinals got into their groove. Starting pitcher Jared Hill settled down and retired the next 8 batters he faced, allowing the Cardinals to open up an 8-2 lead in the 3rd inning.
Guelph seemed frustrated and unable to hold their composure. At one point, they even took a run at a Cardinal player on a routine ground out. Hamilton held their poise and continued their dominance on the score sheet, putting up a four-spot in the bottom half of the inning before the Royals tapped out in 4.5 innings.
Sean Pettener and Cameron McLeod were each 2/3 with 3 RBIs. Calvin Pietron was 1/2 with a walk and 2 RBIs and Ian Jordan was 3/3 with 1 RBI.
Starting Pitcher Jared Hill was outstanding, pitching 4 2/3 allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, striking out 5 and walking 2. Sean Pettener came in to close allowing 1 hit and striking out 1 in 1/3 of an innings work.
