League leading Tigers tamed by PeeWee Cards

The Hamilton Cardinals Minor PeeWee team put together its best game of the season to defeat the division leading Waterloo Tigers 6-5 in eight innings.

Kole Bishop who started for the Cardinals in the InterCounty Baseball Association game, cruised through seven strong innings, letting his defence do much of the work.

Bishop struck out two batters, surrendered three runs (only one was earned) but he earned a no decision. He was relieved in the top of the eighth inning by Justin Jeffrey who gave up two runs, one earned.

The Cardinals came from behind for the second time this season and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the eighth. After the leadoff man struck out, Noah Britt reached on a walk and advanced to second base on a passed ball. He scored when the shortstop made a throwing error on Nolan Gallo’s batted ball.

Gallo promptly stole second and was singled home by Jacob Underwood to tie the game. Underwood took second on the throw home and reached third on a passed ball. David Candy walked and Jeffrey helped his cause by driving in the winning run with a single past the drawn in outfield.

Underwood led the Cardinals with two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs and Ty Whalen and Jeffrey each recorded two hits. Gallo scored three runs while reaching base on a walk, a double and the error.

Lamarche pitched 2 1/3 innings for Waterloo, taking the loss by giving up 5 runs. Shen kept the pitching duel with Bishop going for 5 innings, yielding one run. Hayes and J Schouppe recorded the only RBIs for Waterloo.
