Defence comes up big for Cards’ Minor Bantams

A solid effort all round led the Cardinals to a 7-3 win over the Simcoe Giants in Inter-County Baseball Association
Minor Bantam play. The team posted 10 hits with no defensive errors in six and a half innings.

The Cardinals had strong batting performances by Tyler Hamilton and Brendan Watson. Both were two-for-three on the night. Hamilton had two runs-batted-in and Watson, Joseph McCleod, Ken Coleman and Tim McPhee each posted 1 RBI.

A number of Giant’s hits were to the outfield but Cardinal outfielders Alex Michalak, Colin Harold, McLeod and McPhee had a strong night in the field, not allowing any hits to drop in.

Coleman pitched the first five innings, allowing one run on two hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Slater Frith came in as the relief pitcher for the final two innings. He allowed two runs on two hits, four walks and two strikeouts.

The Cardinals next action is in St. Mary’s for a double header on Sunday, June 26.
