Hitting advantage can’t save T-Birds

The Baycats broke open a 4-4 tie with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and held on to defeat the Hamilton Thunderbirds 6-5 at Barrie Metals Stadium.

Sean Reilly had a double and a solo home run with two runs scored and RBI to help propel the Baycats (16-7) to the senior Intercounty Baseball League win. Jeff Cowan added a double and two singles, as well as a run scored and an RBI, while Ryan Spataro keyed the offense in the seventh inning with a two run home run.

Jamie Arneson earned the win, pitching just 1 1/3 innings after appearing in relief of starter Chris Kemlo who lasted six innings. Arneson gave up one hit and no runs with two strikeouts.

Zack Ranta had three hits for the Thunderbirds (5-19) in the loss with one run scored and one RBI, while Mike Gottschalk and James Anderson each had a pair of hits with one RBI. Despite losing the game, the Thunderbirds managed to outhit the Baycats 12-8.

Bronson Lake suffered the loss, allowing two hits and two earned runs during one inning of work.
