Cards strike early and hold on for win

The Minor Bantam Cardinals came out to play and they made that known early in their Inter-County Baseball Association game against the Waterloo Tigers.

The host Cardinals came out hitting in the first inning – finishing with five runs – that would carry them to a 6-4 victory on July 7.

It was Hamilton’s fifth win of the season against 13 losses while the Tigers would go home with an 8-9 record.

Tieranan Caufield and Ken Coleman shared the Cardinals pitching duties. Caulfield allowed three runs in his three innings with two strikeouts, four walks and three hits. Coleman finished the final four innings and allowed only one run on two2 strikeouts, two walks and three hits.

Noah Skirrow led Hamilton’s offence with a two-for-three showing at the plate with a single and a double, cashing in two runs. Coleman, Alex Michalak and Tyler Hamilton all recorded one RBI each on the night.
