Sixteen athletes from the Hamilton area have returned home, bringing with them a silver medal and two bronze medals from the 45th International Children’s Games in Lanarkshire, Scotland from August 3-8.
Hamilton, competing against a field of 1,300 athletes from 33 countries and 77 cities, won its silver in swimming when Osvald Nitski placed second in the final of the 200 Fly. She also had seventh place finishes in each of the 200 Individual medley, the 100 Fly, and the 50 Fly.
Also in Swimming, Kenny Mackenzie raced to a bronze in the 200 Breaststroke. That showing was accompanied by a fourth place in the 100 Breaststroke, a fifth in the 50 Breaststroke, and an eighth in the 50 Freestyle.
Team Hamilton competed in Athletics, Soccer, and Swimming.
Team officials said they “always remember the warmth of the Lanarkshire community, their tremendous hospitality and spirit, and the many friendships we created with athletes/coaches from around the world.”

Jenna Smith was 13th in the 800m with personal best of 2:26:95 while Claire DePaul was sixth in the 100m 13:21 seconds. Hamilton’s 400 Relay was disqualified in its event.
