The Hamilton Cardinals Major bantams eliminated the Stratford Indians on Friday (August 19) in InterCounty Baseball Association playoff action.
Hamilton scored a 7-5 road win to advance to the next ICBA post-season round. Hamilton had led 6-0 at one point in the game and held on for the victory.
The Cards drew first blood in the top of the second from a Christian Nunez RBI. The Cards held the Indians scoreless in the bottom of the frame.
Hamilton’s offence took flight in the third inning when starting pitcher Marlon Krupa had a run-batted-in single. Nunez and Owen Angus-Yamada, each had a two-run RBI to give Hamilton its 6-0 margin.
The Indians responded with two earned and one unearned run in the bottom of the third to cut the visitors lead in half. But the Cards got a run in the top of the fourth with a bases-loaded walk, however, the Cards left three runners stranded.
Krupa gave way to Nunez in the bottom of the fourth with one onboard and two away. Nunez ended the inning with a fly out.
The Card offense sputtered in the top of the fifth and failed to add to their lead. The Indians got an earned and an unearned run in the bottom of the frame to get within two runs of Hamilton. Neither team was able to score in the remaining two innings and Hamilton returned home the victors.
