Hurricanes’ George captures CJFL, OFC player of week honours

Hamilton Hurricanes’ special teams player Jamal George (#15) was named both an OFC and Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) player of the week.

In the home opening 42-7 win over the Burlington Braves at Ivor Wynne last Friday, Jamal George may have only had two statistical touches, but was electrifying on both occasions returning a kickoff 72 yards and a punt 34 yards. The Hamilton Ticats training camp invitee currently leads the OFC in punt return average with 39.5 yards per return.

Also named OFC player of the week was defensive back John Hornby (#51). In his first year with the Hurricanes, Hornby has helped lead a defense that has only surrendered 14 points in two games. Friday night, John led the Hurricanes with six tackles, including five solos, and an interception that he returned 30 yards for a touchdown.

The reigning OFC champions will look to remain perfect when they welcome in newcomers, the 1- 1 Twin Cities Predators to Ivor Wynne Stadium on Saturday for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
