Mohawk begins 2011-12 varsity on the road

Mohawk College opens its 2011-12 varsity sports schedule with seven teams in action this weekend, all on the road.

Friday (Sep. 23) the soccer teams head to Kitchener to meet the Conestoga Condors. The Mountaineer women hit the field first at 3:00 pm, followed by the men at 5:00 pm.

Also Friday, the women’s volleyball squad, under new head coach Andy Nicholson, sees tournament action at Brock University in St. Catharines. The Mountaineers play the Cape Breton University Capers from Sydney Nova Scotia at 7:00 pm Friday. Other teams in the event include Humber, Nipissing, the University of Western Ontario, Windsor and host Brock.
The event runs until Sunday.

The women’s fastball team heads to Seneca College Saturday for a twin bill with the Sting. The games are set for 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.

The Mohawk cross country team is off to London Saturday, for the 14th Annual Fanshawe Invitational Race at the Fanshawe Conservation Area. Mountaineers expected to take part include Jon Redfearn, Darren Chow, Hassan Ishaq, John Miles, Michael Marshall, Lovejeet Singh and Jeremy Connell.

The brand new women’s rugby squad, coached by John Guilfoyle, debuts Saturday at 12:00 pm ¬†at Humber, against the Hawks.

The Mountaineer men’s rugby side opens at Conestoga Sunday at 1:00 pm.
