The Humber Hawks hung a double defeat on the Mohawk Mountaineers in OCAA women’s fastball at Mohawk Sports Park Saturday (Oct. 1).
The Hawks scored the winning run in the top of the 7th inning for a 4-3 victory in the opener, then struck for three runs in the 5th to break open a close game and go on to a 5-0 decision in the second contest.
In game one, Shelby Robblee was the winning pitcher while Jessica Denstedt lost. Nicole Leitch had two RBI and Sarah Oulton one, for the Mountaineers.
In the second game, Robblee’s offense was the key, as she drove in a pair of Hawks’ runs in support of winner Jess O’Quinn. Mohawk’s Mallory Martin suffered the defeat.
The Mountaineers slipped to 1-7, while Humber improved to 2-4.
Mohawk’s next action is Thursday October 13 when they go to Oshawa for a twin bill with the Durham Lords.
