Split for Mohawk women’s volleyball at Wannamaker

A win and a loss for the Mohawk women’s volleyball team on day one of the ten team, Fred Wannamaker Invitational tournament, at Sheridan College in Oakville Friday (Oct. 14)

The Mountaineers scored a 29-27, 25-22 win over Trent University of Peterborough in their opener. Coach Andrew Nicholson said he got strong defence from Libero Mel Patenaude and excellent net work from both Chi Chi Chuks Mady and Kristin VanHartingsveldt.

In their second match, Mohawk lost 24-26, 16-25 to Redeemer. Coach Nicholson noted he inserted Megan Bailey, who is coming off an injury and Ashley Hagen, who is focused on soccer at the moment. He said both players showed some rust, but will be good, solid contributors to the team.

Saturday, the Mountaineers will meet Humber at 8:15 am, then Loyalist at 10:45 am.

The tourney playoffs begin at 3:00 pm, with the medal matches at 6:30 pm.

All the action is at Sheridan’s Trafalgar Campus.
