The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Rochester Americans 3-2 in a shootout on Friday night at Blue Cross Arena for their third victory of the year. Gabriel Dumont scored the shootout winning goal while Corey Tropp had two goals for the Amerks.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 15:32 of the second period on a goal by Zack FitzGerald which was his first goal as a ‘Dog. FitzGerald received a pass from T.J. Fast and slapped a shot from the right point and the puck bounced off a defender’s stick and over the shoulder of Rochester starting goaltender Drew MacIntyre.
The Amerks evened the score at 10:49 of the third frame on a tally by Corey Tropp. After receiving a pass from Travis Turnbull, Tropp walked in and wristed a shot through the five hole of Hamilton starting goaltender Nathan Lawson.
The Bulldogs pulled ahead on a power play goal by Philip DeSimone at 13:19 of the third period. Brian Willsie rifled a shot from the point, which MacIntyre stopped and the rebound bounced out to DeSimone who scooped up the loose puck and buried a backhand past MacIntyre.
The Americans squared the score for the second time on a power play marker at 14:58 of the third stanza by Corey Tropp. After a shot from the point by Derek Whitmore, the puck was bouncing around in the crease and then was deflected off the post and was tapped in by Tropp behind Lawson.
The Bulldogs won the game in the shootout 4-3 on a winning goal by Gabriel Dumont. Brock Trotter, Dany Masse and Frederic St. Denis also scored in the shootout while Zack Kassian, Tropp and Mark Voakes responded for the Amerks.
The Bulldogs will return home to Copps Coliseum for a rematch against the Americans on Thursday October 27th at 7:30 P.M. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs games can be heard live on AM 820 CHAM beginning with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
