Aminu Bello scored 33 points to lead the Mohawk men’s basketball team to an 87-78 victory over Niagara at the Fennell Gym on Wednesday night (Nov. 9).
Manny Campbell had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Mountaineers, while Tanner Lane scored 15 points and Taylor Dowhaniuk added 11 points plus 18 boards.
For Niagara, Alex Campbell scored 19 points, while Rashad Morley had 14 points and 17 rebounds. Ashton Stephenson also collected 14 points.
Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker noted that Niagara hung in there. “It seemed we were always in control,” said Jonker, “but (the Knights) wouldn’t go away. We did just enough. We played pretty unintelligently the last three minutes, but we got away with it.”
Both teams are now 2-1. Jonker is satisfied with the start and noted the only Canadian college team the Mountaineers have lost to is Humber.
Mohawk will host Sheridan (2-0) Friday night (Nov. 11) at 8 p.m. at the Fennell Gym.
Niagara entertains Fanshawe Saturday at 8 p.m.
