A 51-shots-on-goal onslaught led to an 8-0 route by the Grand Rapids Griffins when they visited the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday evening. Jamie Johnson had two goals and one assist while Chris Conner and Doug Janik both tallied a goal and added two assists for the Griffins.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs had 29 shots on net before a crowd of 4,548 at Copps Coliseum.
Goalie Nathan Lawson played the first two periods before the Bulldogs replaced him with Robert Mayer for the final period which started with Grand Rapids up by seven goals.
The visitors wasted little time in setting the tone for the game, scoring two goals before the contest was three minutes old. The Griffins scored at 1:32 on a goal by Jamie Johnson. Gustav Nyquist was positioned in the corner and centered a pass towards the slot where Johnson one-timed a low shot under Lawson. The second marker came at 2:40 on a tally by Louis-Marc Aubry.
The Griffins scored their third goal on the power play at 6:04 of the second stanza on another marker by Johnson. Three minutes later Conner scored. Tomas Tatar gave Grand Rapids their fifth goal at 16:24. Grand Rapids’ sixth tally, by Francis Pare, came at 19:01 and 28 seconds later Janik added the seventh goal – both on powerplays.
The deluge ended at 3:10 of the third period on a goal by Landon Ferraro.
