Bulldogs go to Nailers for defenceman

Defenceman Olivier Malka has been recalled by the Hamilton Bulldogs from the East Coast Hockey League’s Wheeling Nailers.

Malka, 21, signed a one-year, two-way American Hockey League/ ECHL contract with Hamilton on Sept. 27t. Malka made his professional debut with the Bulldogs in the team’s 5-2 season-opening victory over the Rochester Americans on Saturday, Oct. 8, posting two shots on goal and an even plus / minus rating.

In seven games for the Wheeling Nailers this season, the native of Montreal registered seven points (1 goal, 6 assists), 21 shots, a +5 rating and 17 penalty minutes.

In 2010-11, his third season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Lewiston MAINEiacs, the 5-foot-10, 178-pound defenceman played in 64 games, posting 55 points (16 goals, 39 assists) while leading the team in penalty minutes with 116. In 176 games in the QMJHL, Malka registered 104 points (30 goals, 74 assists) and 292 penalty minutes.
