Brampton – The McMaster cheerleading squad won the University and Open Nationals Cheerleading Championships in the University Small Co-Ed division on Saturday (Dec. 3).

Over the weekend, the Marauders competed against the University of Saskatchewan, Carleton University, the University of Regina and the University of Ottawa.

The Marauders stayed out in front for the first round, scoring a division-high 182 points. Regina followed by a close 177 points, and behind them was Saskatchewan with 168.5.

The second day saw another 196 points go McMaster’s way that would lead them to the championships with a total of 378 points over the two rounds. Taking silver was Regina with a total of 362 and Saskatchewan came up with bronze with 345.5.

Western Ontario took home the University Large Co-Ed Championship with 431.5 points and Laurier won the University All Girl Division with 400 points. In the Community College category, Fanshawe earned the title win with 362 points.
