Women Mountaineers tripped by Knights

The Mohawk women’s volleyball team missed a golden opportunity to score a big victory to complete first semester play in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association.

The Mountaineers, who dropped the first set to Niagara, bounced back smartly and had match point in the fourth game, but failed to seal the deal and lost in the final set to the Knights, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 24-26, 9-15 at the Fennell Gym on Wednesday (Dec. 7).

Chi Chi Chuks-Mady led Mohawk with 11 kills, two service aces, one stuff block and 15 digs. Kristie Crnic contributed 10 kills, two aces and 14 digs. Mackenzie Lawrence scored 10 kills, two aces and seven kills and Julie Gagnon added 15 digs.

For Niagara, Lindsay Murray had 24 kills, two stuff blocks and 10 digs. Heather Vandermeer had 11 kills and 16 digs, Marieka Ouimette counted 11 kills, one ace and three digs, Shawna Mcdonald had five kills and 18 digs and Dayna Kozub came up with 20 digs.

Mohawk goes to the break with a 2-7 record, while Niagara moved to 5-4.
