The Redeemer Royals men’s volleyball team will head to San Diego, California over the Christmas Break.
The trip, from Dec. 28 to Jan. 4, will see the Royals competing against some of the top college and university teams in Canada and training out of the San Diego Volleyball Club facility.
While in San Diego, the Royals will spend their time training and taking part in an exhibition tournament scheduled for Dec. 29-31. There will also be some time off for the team for sightseeing.
Tournament play for the Royals will be intense and will be used to prepare the team for the second semester and possibly a run at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association volleyball title. The team will face the hosts for the 2012 national championship and No. 11 ranked Columbia Bible College of Abbotsford, B.C., the No. 9 ranked Red Deer College from Alberta, the No. 6 ranked Limoilou College from Quebec, and the No. 1 national ranked Vancouver Island University while in California.
“It will provide the team with a high level of competition over the Christmas Break and will help to prepare the team for the second half stretch and potentially into playoffs,” said Athletic Director Dave Mantel.
“The team has shown over the last number of years that it has the ability to compete for provincial medals and this quality competitive environment is a great way to prepare the team both physically and mentally for some important games coming up in the second semester”.
The men’s team currently sits in 5th place in the OCAA West division with a 5-4 record and is ranked No. 7 in the province.
