It’s coming to crunch time for the Mohawk Mountaineers men’s volleyball team.
The Mountaineers are tied, in points, with 16 with Fanshawe in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association’s West Region. But Mohawk, with its 8-3 record has one less loss than the Falcons who are 8-4.
And not wanting to lose any ground with just seven games left in regular season play, the Mountaineers rallied from two sets down for a 22-25, 24-26, 27-25, 28-26, 15-12 verdict over the Niagara Knights on Wednesday (Jan. 18). Fanshawe was a 3-0 victor over St. Clair the same night.
Sheridan Bruins, who sit right behind the two teams with a 7-4 record, visit Mohawk on Saturday for a 6.m. match.
At Niagara, Phil Youngblut led Mohawk with 13 kills, two aces and five blocks. Justin Scapinello had 12 kills, three aces and four blocks. Ian Cameron collected 15 kills and one block and added 19 digs and Steve Pawelczyk had 11 kills and five blocks.
Yosef Said led the Niagara offence with 18 points.
