Defending OUA cage champs rebound to down Marauders

Thunder Bay – The McMaster men’s basketball team couldn’t handle the Thunderwolves, losing 83-76 in an Ontario University Athletics West Division contest on Friday (Jan. 20). The setback kept the Marauders from moving into third place in the division. Their 9-4 record has them in fourth place, two back of the Windsor Lancers.

Team-high scorer for McMaster was Cam Michaud with 14 points.

Leading after the first quarter, 19-12, the Marauders continued to push on their offensive to lead 40-31 at halftime.

Lakehead came flying out of the gates in the third quarter, scoring 25 points to McMaster’s 16 and in the fourth, the reigning OUA Champions sealed the deal scoring another 27 to the Marauders’ 20.

Joining Michaud in double digits was rookie point guard Adam Presutti with 12 points and eight rebounds and Satar Wahidi with another 11 for McMaster. Rookies Aaron Redpath and Joe Rocca both added another 10 for the Marauders.

Lakehead’s Venzal Russell scored a game-high 19 points and Yoosie Salhia recorded 15 points and 13 rebounds. Also reaching double digits for the Thunderwolves was Ben Johnson with 14 and Greg Carter with 10 more.

The Marauders look to take down the Thunderwolves Saturday night in the second game of the doubleheader weekend against Lakehead.
