Thunder Bay – Five Marauders hit double digits as McMaster downed the Lakehead Thunderwolves, 74-57 in Ontario University Athletics women’s basketball on Friday (Jan. 20)
Up 25-13 after the first quarter in the West Division match, the Marauders would score another 17 and took a 42-30 lead into the second half.
Marauders threw up a strong defence in the third quarter, allowing the Thunderwolves to score just seven points to their 18. Despite Lakehead’s 20 points in the fourth, the Marauders held on for the win to improve their fifth-place record to 6-7.
Taylor Chiarot was the game-high scorer with 14 points and eight rebounds. Liz Burns added 13, Stephanie Truelove dropped in 11 points and five rebounds, and Hailey Milligan and Vanessa Bonomo each contributed 10.
Lakehead’s Ayse Kalkan scored a team-high 12 points for the home team and Lindsay Drurey added another nine points and nine rebounds.
The two teams meet again on Saturday to complete the weekend doubleheader.
