Mountaineers get cool reception in northern trip

Mohawk’s men’s and women’s volleyball teams took it on the chin in North Bay against strong teams from Nipissing. The Lakers won the women’s match, 3-0, to improve their record to 11-3, while the Mountaineers fell to 3-13 in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association play on Saturday.

In the men’s match, Mohawk saw a seven-match win string snapped by the 13-1 Lakers. The Mountaineers are now 12-4. Mohawk had extended its win streak on Friday when the Mountaineers edged the Canadore Panthers 3-2 to capture their seventh straight victory. With the loss, Mohawk slipped to third place while Nipissing moved into second.

On Friday, the Mohawk women dropped a 3-2 decision to Canadore in a battle of tail-enders. For Canadore, it was only their second win in 14 tries this season.
