IBL Cards take flight on May 12

Hamilton Cardinals Cardinals open their 36-game Intercounty Baseball League season at Nelson Park in Burlington on Saturday, May 12 versus the Twins. The following days, the Cards will have their home opener when the Guelph Royals visit Bernie Arbour Stadium.

During the 2012 regular season, the Cardinals will play Brantford, Burlington, London and Toronto five times each while they will face Barrie, Guelph, Kitchener and Ottawa four times each. Of the club’s 18 home games, nine will take place on Sunday afternoons and eight on Friday nights. The one remaining home game will be played in Ottawa on Monday, June 4.

And why will Hamilton play a home game in Ottawa? The Cards tried to schedule the game at Bernie Arbour for July 1 but the stadium was not available. Hamilton could have slotted the game on a mid-week which would have required Ottawa to make a special trip for one game. Ottawa was looking at hosting a school-day game and since the Cardinals were in Ottawa for Saturday and Sunday games, Hamilton decided to help them out.

The Cards will close out regular season play on Sunday, July 22 when the Barrie Baycats visit Bernie Arbour.

All home games, excluding the game in Ottawa, will be held at Bernie Arbour Stadium in Hamilton with a 2 p.m. start on Sundays and 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

The Cardinals are also offering savings on the purchases of season passes if they are bought before Feb. 14. Season passes will give fans admission to all 18 regular season home games, a free hot dog at each home game, and admission to all 18 regular season road games with the IBL Road Pass, excluding games in Burlington and Toronto.

Fans interested in purchasing season passes can email Mary-Beth Grills, Team Administrator, at iblcardinals@bell.net or by phone at (905) 664-5656 or (905) 870-5684.
