Knight crowned for volleyball efforts

TORONTO – Marieka Ouimette of the Niagara Knights was chosen the female volleyball player of the week in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association play.

The third-year middle from Spencerville (near Ottawa) helped her Knights secure a post-season berth in a pair of wins. In a 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 25-6, 21-25, 15-12) win at Oakville Sheridan on Feb. 8, Ouimette contributed six kills, seven blocks and four aces for a match-high 17 points. She then shared the team lead with 16 points on 11 kills, four blocks and one ace in a 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-18) win at St. Clair on Feb. 12.

Niagara hosts Humber on Wednesday (Feb. 15) before hosting a championship qualifier.

Other OCAA athletes of the week for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 12 included Dave McMann, Durham, men’s volleyball; Shaniqua Wilson, George Brown, women’s basketball; and Boyd Vassel, Fanshawe, men’s basketball.
