The McMaster men’s and women’s volleyball teams will open the Ontario University Athletics playoffs at home on Saturday (Feb.18). In a scheduling quirk, both Marauder squads will clash with teams they faced on the final weekend of conference play.
The Marauder women meet the Toronto Varsity Blues at 6 p.m. in the Burridge Gym. McMaster won a crucial match 3-1 over the Blues last Saturday in Toronto. The winner of the quarterfinal will advance to the OUA final-four at the home of the highest remaining seeded team after the first-round of the playoffs. The York Lions enter the post-season as the top seed. McMaster will host the Canadian Interuniversity Sports championships March 2-4.
The Marauder men’s team will play the York Lions in its quarterfinal match. Game time in the Burridge Gym will be at the conclusion of women’s match at about 8 p.m.
McMaster defeated York 3-2 last Sunday in the OUA finale for both teams. The Marauders finished league play with a record of 15-3, good for second-place in the OUA standings. York was 8-10, and captured the final playoff spot by finishing in seventh place.
The quarterfinal winner will move on to the OUA final-four being hosted at Western University, which finished in first-place in the league, gaining the top seed and host position.
