Strong start for Mohawk badminton tandem

Mohawk Mountaineers reigning silver medalists, Chris Hong and Mohammed Nazimuddin, are off to a good start at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Badminton Championships at Redeemer University College in Ancaster.

The men’s doubles team won three of four matches on Friday (Feb. 17).

Hong and Nazimuddin downed the Centennial duo Stephen Kulanathan and Kevin Ronkiewicz, 21-17,18-21, 21-13. They then swept Seneca’s Jeffrey Chow-Wah and David Georgievski, 21-10, 21-15 before disposing of the Humber team of Dustin Mitchell/Johnny Truong, 19-21, 21-16, 21-18.

Their win streak was stopped by Dayvon Reid and Mark Wong of George Brown in two games, 21-17, 21-16.

The Mohawk tandem is back on the court Saturday (Feb.18) against Georgian’s Brad McNeice and Trevor Neville (Georgian).
