Basketball playoffs elude women Mountaineers

Despite a six win improvement in the standings from last year to this season, the Mohawk women’s basketball team will be on the outside, looking in when it comes to post season Ontario Colleges Athletic Association play.

The Mountaineers, despite a late surge to get to within five points, fell 65-58 to the Humber Hawks in the last game of the regular season. Rachelle Abella scored 25 points for Mohawk.

The Mountaineers would have made it to a playoff qualifier with a win, or if Lambton defeated Niagara. But the Lions lost, 71-63, to the Knights to dash the Mountaineers’ hopes.

Mohawk finished the season with an 8-10 record and seventh place in the West Division.
